Cuntz-Algebra

In der Funktionalanalysis sind die sogenannten Cuntz-Algebren <math> \mathcal{O}_n </math> (nach Joachim Cuntz) eine spezielle Klasse von C*-Algebren, die von n paarweise orthogonalen Isometrien auf einem separablen Hilbertraum erzeugt werden.

Definition

Sei <math>H </math> ein separabler unendlichdimensionaler Hilbertraum. Für eine natürliche Zahl <math>n \geq 2 </math> seien <math>S_1,\dots,S_n \in\mathcal{L}(H)</math> Isometrien auf H, d. h., es gilt <math>S_i^*S_i =1 </math> für <math>1\leq i\leq n </math>. Zudem sollen sie die Eigenschaft

<math>\sum_{i=1}^n S_iS_i^* = 1 </math>

erfüllen, die Bildprojektoren sind also paarweise orthogonal. Für den Fall <math>n=\infty </math> fordert man eine Folge von Isometrien <math>S_1,S_2,S_3,\dots\quad </math> mit der Eigenschaft

<math>\sum_{i=1}^k S_iS_i^* \leq 1\quad </math> für alle <math>k\in\mathbb{N}.</math>

Man definiert nun

<math>\mathcal{O}_n = C^*(S_1,\dots,S_n) </math>

als die von <math>S_1,\dots,S_n </math> erzeugte C*-Unteralgebra in <math>\mathcal{L}(H) </math>. Um eine einheitliche Notation zu wahren, behält man diese Schreibweise auch im Fall <math>n=\infty </math> bei.

Eigenschaften

Die Cuntz-Algebra <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math> hat eine Reihe von bemerkenswerten Eigenschaften, sie ist ein Beispiel für eine separable, unitale und einfache C*-Algebra.

Eindeutigkeit

Sind <math>\tilde{S}_1,\dots,\tilde{S}_n\in\mathcal{L}(H) </math> weitere Isometrien mit <math>\sum_{i=1}^n \tilde{S}_i\tilde{S}_i^* = 1 </math>, so folgt

<math>C^*(S_1,\dots,S_n) \simeq C^*(\tilde{S}_1,\dots,\tilde{S}_n).</math>

Die Isomorphieklasse hängt also nicht von der Wahl der Erzeuger ab. Die Schreibweise <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math>, die nicht auf die Erzeuger <math>S_1,\dots,S_n </math> zurückgreift, wird damit gerechtfertigt.

Eine besondere Rolle bei der Untersuchung von <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math> spielt die C*-Unteralgebra <math>\mathcal{F}^n </math>, die von Elementen der Form <math>S_{i_1}S_{i_2}\dots S_{i_k}S_{j_k}^* S_{j_{k-1}}^*\dots S_{j_1}^* </math> mit <math>k\in\mathbb{N}, 1 \leq i_l, j_l \leq n </math> erzeugt wird. Man kann zeigen, dass diese zur UHF-Algebra zur übernatürlichen Zahl <math>n^\infty</math> isomorph ist. Setzt man einen Erzeuger fest, zum Beispiel <math>V=S_1 </math> und schreibt <math>V^{-1} = S_1^*</math>, so existieren Abbildungen <math>F_i: \mathcal{O}_n \to \mathcal{F}^n </math>, sodass jedes <math>A\in\mathcal{O}_n </math> dargestellt werden kann als

<math>A = \sum_{i=-\infty}^{-1} V^iF_i(A) + F_0(A) + \sum_{i=1}^\infty F_i(A)V^i </math>.

Ein wichtiger Schritt im Beweis obiger Eindeutigkeitseigenschaft ist es, diese <math>F_i(A)</math> analog zu Fourierkoeffizienten in einer Laurentreihe zu deuten. Dadurch ist es möglich zu zeigen, dass auf dem rein algebraischen Erzeugnis von <math>S_1,\dots,S_n,S_1^*,\dots,S_n^*</math> nur eine C*-Norm existieren kann, womit die Behauptung gezeigt ist.

Einfachheit

Eine C*-Algebra heißt einfach, falls sie keine nicht-trivialen abgeschlossenen zweiseitigen Ideale besitzt. <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math> ist sogar im algebraischen Sinne einfach.

Satz: Sei <math>0\neq X\in\mathcal{O}_n </math>. Dann existieren <math>A,B\in\mathcal{O}_n </math> mit <math>AXB = 1 </math>.

Außerdem sind Cuntz-Algebren in folgendem Sinne mit einfachen, unitalen, unendlichen C*-Algebren verwandt.

Satz: Sei <math>\mathcal{A}</math> eine einfache, unendliche, unitale C*-Algebra. Dann existiert eine C*-Unteralgebra von <math>\mathcal{A}</math>, die isomorph zu <math>\mathcal{O}_\infty</math> ist. Für endliche <math>n\geq 2</math> existiert eine C*-Unteralgebra <math>\mathcal{B}\subset\mathcal{A}</math>, die ein Ideal <math>\mathcal{J}</math> enthält, sodass <math>\mathcal{O}_n \simeq \mathcal{B}/\mathcal{J}</math>.

Klassifikation

Es sei <math>\mathcal{O}_2 = C^*(S_1,S_2) </math> wie oben. Definiert man <math>\hat{S}_1 = S_1^2, \hat{S}_2 = S_1S_2, \hat{S}_3 = S_2 </math>, so sind <math>\hat{S}_1,\hat{S}_2,\hat{S}_3 </math> ebenfalls Isometrien mit <math>\hat{S}_1\hat{S}_1^*+\hat{S}_2\hat{S}_2^*+\hat{S}_3\hat{S}_3^* = 1 </math> und es gilt offensichtlich <math> C^*(\hat{S}_1,\hat{S}_2,\hat{S}_3) \subset C^*(S_1,S_2)</math>.

Man erhält auf diese Weise die Inklusionen

<math>\mathcal{O}_\infty \subset \mathcal{O}_n \subset \mathcal{O}_2 </math>.

Mit K-theoretischen Methoden zeigt man, dass <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math> und <math>\mathcal{O}_m </math> nicht isomorph sind, falls <math>n\neq m </math>. Falls <math>n </math> endlich ist, so berechnet sich die <math>K_0 </math>-Gruppe von <math>\mathcal{O}_n </math> zu <math>\mathbb{Z}_{n-1} </math>. Für den Fall <math>n=\infty </math> ergibt sich <math>K_0=\mathbb{Z} </math>. Da die <math>K_0 </math>-Gruppe eine Isomorphie-Invariante ist, folgt sofort die Behauptung.

Darstellung als Kreuzprodukt

Auf <math>\mathcal{F}^n</math> existiert ein *-Automorphismus <math>\Phi</math>, sodass <math>\mathcal{O}_n \simeq \mathcal{F}^n \rtimes_\Phi \mathbb{Z} </math>. Da <math>\mathcal{F}^n</math> als eine UHF-Algebra nuklear ist, folgt aus dieser Darstellung als Kreuzprodukt, dass auch <math>\mathcal{O}_n</math> nuklear ist.
