Die Internationale Formel-3000-Meisterschaft 1987 war die dritte Saison der Internationalen Formel 3000-Meisterschaft. Sie startete am 12. April 1987 in Silverstone und endete am 11. Oktober 1987 in Jarama. Es wurden elf Rennen in fünf Ländern gefahren. Den Titel gewann der Italiener Stefano Modena, der für das herstellerunterstützte britische Team Onyx fuhr.
Überblick
Teams
In der Saison 1987 gingen 23 verschiedene Teams an den Start. Die meisten von ihnen meldeten sich zu allen Meisterschaftsläufen, während einige kleinere Teams ein oder mehrere Rennen ausließen oder vor Saisonablauf den Rennbetrieb einstellten.
Chassis
Die am weitesten verbreiteten Chassis waren die Konstruktionen von March Engineering, mit denen 11 Teams an den Start gingen. Je fünf Teams starteten mit Chassis von Lola und Ralt, zwei mit Autos des italienischen Herstellers Dallara, der in diesem Jahr erstmals die Formel 3000 belieferte. Lola und Ralt waren mit Werksteams vertreten; der traditionsreiche Betrieb March, der in diesem Jahr werksseitig in die Formel 1 zurückkehrte, stellte in der Formel 3000 dem privaten Team Onyx Werksunterstützung zur Verfügung.
Motoren
Wie schon im Vorjahr, setzten nahezu alle Teams setzten Cosworth-DFV-Motoren ein, die zumeist bei Mader in Gland gewartet wurden. Ausnahmen waren das Ralt-Werksteam, das wie schon 1968 exklusiv mit Honda-Motoren an den Start ging, sowie das italienische Team First Racing, das in der zweiten Saisonhälfte eines seiner insgesamt drei Autos mit einem Motor von Judd ausrüstete.
Fahrer
Insgesamt gingen 53 Fahrer an den Start. Ivan Capelli, der Meister des Vorjahres, trat nicht mehr in der Formel 3000 an; er erhielt 1987 ein Cockpit im neu gegründeten Formel-1-Werksteam von March. Stefano Modena, der Meister von 1987, debütierte nach dem Abschluss der Formel-3000-Saison beim Weltmeisterschaftslauf des Jahres 1987 mit Brabham in der Formel 1; 1988 startete er für das unterlegene Team EuroBrun Racing.

Fahrwertung
Die Internationale Formel-3000-Meisterschaft wurde 1987 wie schon in den Jahren zuvor und wie in den folgenden Jahren als reine Fahrermeisterschaft ausgetragen. Eine eigenständige Teamwertung kam erst 1992 hinzu.
Die Punktevergabe richtete sich nach folgendem Schema:

Japanische Formel-3000-Meisterschaft
1987 wurde erstmals die Japanische Formel-3000-Meisterschaft ausgetragen. Die neun Meisterschaftsläufe fanden ausschließlich auf japanischen Strecken statt. Den Titel der Auftaktsaison gewann Kazuyoshi Hoshino.
