Hyas (Sohn des Atlas)

Hyas (Vorlage:GrcS) ist in der griechischen Mythologie der Sohn des Atlas und der Pleione<ref>Ovid, Fasti 5,181</ref> oder der Aithra,<ref>Hygin, Fabulae 192,248</ref> aus deren Verbindung darüber hinaus – je nach Variante des Mythos – 12 oder 15 Töchter hervorgegangen waren.

Während der Jagd in Libyen wurde Hyas von einem Löwen<ref>Musaios bei Hygin, De astronomia 2,21</ref> oder einer Schlange<ref>Timaios in dem Scholion zu Homer, Ilias 18,486</ref> oder einem Eber getötet.<ref>Hygin, Fabulae 192; Ovid, Fasti 5,181</ref> Vor Trauer starben fünf seiner Schwestern, die man deswegen Hyaden nannte und die der mitleidige Zeus als Hyaden unter die Sterne erhob. Ihre verbliebenen 7 oder 12 Schwestern starben später aus dem gleichen Grund und sieben von ihnen wurden als Plejaden, weil sie mehr waren ({{#invoke:Vorlage:lang|flat}}),<ref>Hygin, De astronomia 2,21: {{#invoke:Vorlage:lang|flat}}</ref> zum Siebengestirn des nördlichen Sternhimmels.
