}} Die Divizia A 1988/89 war die 51. Spielzeit in der Geschichte der rumänischen Fußballliga Divizia A. Sie begann am 21. August 1988 und endete am 20. Juni 1989. Von Mitte Dezember bis Anfang März ruhte der Spielbetrieb (Winterpause).
Meister wurde zum fünften Mal in Folge Steaua Bukarest.
Modus
Die 18 Mannschaften spielten an 34 Spieltagen jeweils zweimal gegeneinander. Die drei letztplatzierten Teams stiegen in die Divizia B ab. Für einen Sieg gab es zwei Punkte, für ein Remis einen Punkt und für eine Niederlage keine Punkte. Falls zwei oder mehr Mannschaften am Ende der Saison punktgleich waren, entschied die Tordifferenz.
Verlauf
Wie bereits die Saison 1987/88 wurde auch diese Saison von Steaua Bukarest und Dinamo Bukarest dominiert. Steaua erreichte dabei so viele Punkte wie niemals eine andere Mannschaft in der Divizia A. Die Mannschaft gab nur bei Dinamo (0:0), Universitatea Cluj (2:2) und FCM Brașov (2:2) Punkte ab. Die Vorentscheidung im Kampf um die Meisterschaft fiel, als Dinamo am 22. März 1989 mit 1:2 bei Steaua verlor und sich am 3. Mai mit 0:1 dem FC Olt geschlagen geben musste.
