Clanabzeichen
Ein Clanabzeichen, manchmal auch Pflanzenabzeichen, ist ein Abzeichen (engl.: „badge“) oder Symbol (gewöhnlich ein kleiner Zweig einer spezifischen Pflanze), das benutzt wird, um ein Clanmitglied eines jeweiligen schottischen Clans zu identifizieren.<ref>Highland Heritage: Scottish Americans in the American South; p.39; By Celeste Ray; Published 2001 UNC Press; ISBN 0-8078-4913-8; see</ref> Getragen werden sie meist auf einer barettartigen Mütze<ref>Antiquity; p.42; By Nederlands Instituut te Rome; Published 1949 Antiquity Publications; see</ref> hinter dem jeweiligen Wappenabzeichen,<ref>The Clans, Septs, and Regiments of the Scottish Highlands; p.544; By Frank Adam, Thomas Innes of Learney; Published (1965) Johnston & Bacon</ref> oder angeheftet an die Schulter der Tartanschärpe einer Frau. Gemäß einer weit verbreiteten Überlieferung wurden Clanabzeichen benutzt, um Clanmitglieder während einer Schlacht erkennen zu können. Zum Beispiel wurden von den Truppen von General Montrose während der Plünderung von Aberdeen kleine Haferzweige als Erkennung verwendet. Die Jakobiten benutzten beispielsweise die „Weiße Kokarde“ (engl.: „White Cockade“).<ref name="Campbell-p289–290"/>
