Sein Forschungsgebiet umfasste die Samenpflanzen, besonders die Kreuzblütengewächse (Brassicaceae) und Gänsefußgewächse (Chenopodiaceae). Er hat etwa 571 Pflanzensippen neu kombiniert beziehungsweise neu beschrieben. Ein Großteil seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit fand am Botanischen Institut W. L. Komarow in Leningrad statt.
