Michael Fagan
Michael Fagan (* 8. August 1948 in London) ist ein britischer Staatsbürger, der deshalb bekannt wurde, weil es ihm gelungen war, am frühen Morgen des 9. Juli 1982 in das Schlafzimmer von Königin Elisabeth II. im Buckingham Palace einzudringen.
Leben
Michael Fagan wurde im Londoner Stadtteil Clerkenwell geboren.<ref>{{#invoke:Vorlage:Literatur|f}}</ref> Er war der Sohn des Stahlbauers Ivy Fagan, der ein „Meister im Schlossknacken“ war. Außerdem hatte er zwei jüngere Schwestern namens Margaret und Elizabeth. Er besuchte 1955 die Compton Street School in Clerkenwell (heute St. Peter & St. Paul RC Primary School). Mit 18 Jahren verließ er 1966 sein Zuhause aufgrund seines Vaters, der laut Fagan gewalttätig war, und arbeitete als Maler und Dekorateur. Im Juni 1982 brach Fagan erstmals in den Buckingham Palace ein, indem er über eine Regenrinne hochkletterte und durch ein Fenster im dritten Stock ins Gebäude einstieg. Er habe ein Hausmädchen überrascht, das die Sicherheitskräfte gerufen habe; diese hätten ihn jedoch nach kurzer Suche nicht gefunden. Fagan sei daraufhin unbehelligt im Palast umhergewandert, habe unter anderem auf den Thronen im Thronsaal probegesessen und ins Futter der königlichen Corgis uriniert. Am 9. Juli 1982 gegen 6:45 Uhr<ref name="History Extra"/> drang Fagan ein zweites Mal in den Palast ein, indem er die ca. vier Meter hohe Absperrung überwand und über eine Regenrinne in das Gebäude gelangte. Beim Umherwandern im Palast habe er sich an der Hand verletzt, als er einen gefundenen Glas-Aschenbecher zerschmetterte.<ref name="History Extra"/> Gegen 7:15 Uhr erreichte er das Schlafzimmer der Königin und traf diese im Bett an.<ref name="History Extra"/> Der Eingang des Schlafzimmers sei – anders als üblich – unbewacht gewesen, da der zuständige Polizeibeamte seinen Dienst um 6 Uhr beendet habe.<ref name="History Extra"/> Früheren Darstellungen zufolge habe Fagan sich länger mit der Königin unterhalten. Diese Version relativierte er 2012: Die Königin habe ihn lediglich gefragt, was er hier tue, und sei dann barfuß aus dem Raum gelaufen.<ref name="Independent"/> Nachdem sie zweimal vergeblich versucht habe, über das Haustelefon die Polizei zu alarmieren, sei Fagan schließlich von Hausangestellten in eine kleine Küche (Pantry) geführt worden, wo ihm der Hausangestellte Paul Whybrew einen Whisky eingeschenkt habe.<ref name="Independent"/><ref name="History Extra"/> Dort sei er geblieben, bis die Polizei eintraf.<ref name="History Extra"/>
Der Einbruch war in Politik und Öffentlichkeit des Vereinigten Königreiches ein Skandal und führte zu einer Debatte um die Sicherheit der königlichen Familie. Der damalige Innenminister William Whitelaw bot seinen Rücktritt an, den die Königin ablehnte.<ref name="History Extra"/> Sie selbst kommentierte den Vorfall nie öffentlich.<ref name="History Extra"/>
Im September 1982 wurde Fagan vor dem Old Bailey wegen Einbruchs angeklagt, jedoch von der Jury nach kurzer Beratung freigesprochen. Auf richterlichen Beschluss wurde er in eine psychiatrische Klinik in Liverpool eingewiesen, aus der er im Januar 1983 nach ausführlicher ärztlicher Begutachtung wieder entlassen wurde.<ref name="History Extra"/>
1987 wurde Fagan wegen Erregung öffentlichen Ärgernisses verurteilt, als er ohne Hose vor einer Frau in London herumlief.<ref name="History Extra"/> 1997 wurden Fagan, seine Frau und sein damals 20-jähriger Sohn zu einer vierjährigen Haftstrafe wegen Drogenhandels verurteilt.<ref name="History Extra"/>
