Die Saison 1962/63 war die 17. Spielzeit der Klass A als höchste sowjetische Eishockeyspielklasse. Den sowjetischen Meistertitel sicherte sich zum insgesamt zehnten Mal ZSKA Moskau, während aufgrund einer Verkleinerung der Liga zur folgenden Spielzeit gleich neun Mannschaften in die zweite Liga abstiegen.

Modus

Die 20 Mannschaften der Klass A spielten zunächst in einer gemeinsamen Hauptrunde gegen jeden Gegner einmal, wodurch die Gesamtzahl der Spiele pro Mannschaft 19 betrug. Anschließend spielten die ersten zehn Mannschaften in Hin- und Rückspiel in der Finalrunde um den Meistertitel, während die übrigen zehn Mannschaften ebenfalls in Hin- und Rückspiel um den Klassenerhalt antraten, den nur die beste Mannschaft der Abstiegsrunde erreichte. Die übrigen neun Mannschaften der Abstiegsrunde stiegen direkt in die zweite Liga ab. Für einen Sieg erhielt jede Mannschaft zwei Punkte, bei einem Unentschieden gab es einen Punkt und bei einer Niederlage null Punkte.
