Hannibal von Degenfeld
Hannibal Freiherr von Degenfeld (* 1648; † 12. Oktober 1691 in Nauplia, Griechenland) war ein Heerführer in den Diensten verschiedener europäischer Mächte.
Leben
Herkunft und frühe Karriere
Hannibal von Degenfeld war der jüngste Sohn und eines von insgesamt zehn Kindern des bekannten venezianischen Generals und Generalgouverneurs von Dalmatien Christoph Martin von Degenfeld (1599–1653) und Anna Maria Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden. Er war der Bruder der Raugräfin Marie Luise (1634–1677).
Sein Vater starb, als Degenfeld sechs Jahre alt war. }}</ref> Degenfeld zeichnete sich durch Tapferkeit und Können aus und wurde Kompaniechef sowie Major im Regiment seiner Brüder.<ref name="Thürheim155" /> Nach Kriegsende 1669 gewährte ihm der venezianische Senat eine jährliche Pension von 500 Dukaten mit der Auflage, in den venezianischen Dienst zurückzukehren, wann immer die Republik ihn riefe.<ref name="Thürheim155" />
In braunschweigischen, niederländischen und dänischen Diensten
Wie damals üblich, wechselte Degenfeld häufig den Dienstherrn, um schneller aufzusteigen.<ref name="Pfister23" /> Er trat als Oberstleutnant in die Dienste des Herzogs Johann Friedrich von Braunschweig wechselte aber zur Niederländischen Republik, als Johann Friedrich sich mit Frankreich verbündete. Im darauffolgenden Französisch-Niederländischen Krieg nahm Degenfeld an der Verteidigung Groningens teil.<ref name="Thürheim155" /> 1674 trat Degenfeld in die Dienste König Christians V. von Dänemark und stellte ein neues Regiment auf, das Erbprinz-Friedrich-Regiment, teils aus bestehenden unabhängigen Kompanien, teils aus neuen Rekruten. 1675 wurde er von einem Kriegsgericht wegen Disziplinlosigkeit des Regiments verurteilt, aber der König begnadigte ihn und setzte ihn wieder als Kommandeur ein.<ref name="DanskBio">Vorlage:DanskBio</ref>
Im Nordischen Krieg nahm er an der Eroberung von Wismar teil und diente als Kommandant von Rostock. Nach seiner Entlassung im Jahr 1676 wurde er im Rang eines Generalmajors wieder in den Dienst aufgenommen, unter der Bedingung, ein Regiment aufzustellen. Dies gelang Degenfeld nicht, doch wurde sein Rang bestätigt und er wurde mit den norwegischen Truppen unter Ulrich Friedrich Gyldenløve nach Norwegen entsandt. Sein Verhalten bei der Eroberung von Marstrand und beim Marsch nach Jæmteland wurde gelobt, doch geriet er bald in Konflikt mit Gyldenløve und den anderen Kommandeuren und trat im März 1678 aus der norwegischen Armee aus.<ref name="DanskBio" /> Am 19. }}</ref> Degenfeld kehrte nach Dänemark zurück, wo er zum Kommandanten der Infanterie und der Festungen in Jütland sowie zum Gouverneur der Grafschaft Vejle ernannt wurde. Dennoch beantragte er im selben Jahr die Entlassung aus seinem Offizierspatent bei der dänischen Armee, die ihm am Neujahrstag 1679 gewährt wurde, zusammen mit seiner gleichzeitigen Beförderung zum Generalleutnant.<ref name="DanskBio" />
In bayerischen Diensten
1681 trat Degenfeld in den Dienst des Kurfürstentums Bayern und stieg rasch zum Feldmarschallleutnant und Vorsitzenden des Hofkriegsrats auf (1682).<ref name="Thürheim155" /><ref name="Pfister23" /> Er spielte eine entscheidende Rolle bei den Reformen, die zur Aufstellung einer stehenden bayerischen Armee unter Kurfürst Maximilian II. Emanuel führten. Im Dienste Venedigs
Hiernach folgte Degenfeld nochmals einer Aufforderung der Republik Venedig und übernahm das Kommando der für den beabsichtigten Feldzug gegen die Osmanen auf dem Peloponnes bestimmten Landungstruppen. Über ihm stand der spätere Doge Morosini als Generalkapitän und Befehlshaber der Streitkräfte zu Wasser und zu Land. 1685 traf Degenfeld auf dem Peloponnes ein, eroberte nach 49-tägiger Belagerung die Hafenstadt Koron und schlug darauf mit seinem aus 8.000 Mann zumeist deutschen, vor allem sächsischen Hilfstruppen bestehenden Heer die osmanische Armee unter dem Kapudan Pascha bei Kalamata so entscheidend, dass sie für dieses Jahr die Feindseligkeiten einstellte.
Wegen fortwährender Zerwürfnisse mit Morosini nahm Degenfeld im folgenden Jahr seinen Abschied. An seine Stelle trat Otto Wilhelm Graf von Königsmarck. Als jedoch Morosini Doge von Venedig geworden war und dessen Nachfolger Girolamo Corner wie auch von Königsmarck an der Pest gestorben waren, und der französische Nachfolger Gadagne sich der Aufgabe nicht gewachsen zeigte, erinnerte man sich wieder an von Degenfeld und ernannte ihn 1691 erneut zum Generalkapitän gegen die Osmanen.
Am 3. August verließ er mit neuen Truppen Venedig und traf am 4. September in Nauplia ein. Doch schon am 12. Oktober 1691 fiel auch er dem Fieber zum Opfer. Familie
Während seiner Zeit in Kopenhagen hatte Degenfeld am 19. Januar 1678 Anna Marie von Reche geb. von Gersdorf, Tochter von Oberst Christopher Frederik Gersdorff († vor 1682) und die Dorthe Giedde (1625–1651), geheiratet. Das Paar hatte eine Tochter, Maria Antonia, die einen Freiherr (siehe unter «Literatur»: Österreichisches Staatsarchiv) Johann Wilhelm von Hacke heiratete.<ref>Johann Carl König, Selecta iuris publici novissima, digitalisat</ref> Frederik von Gersdorff (1651–1724) war sein Schwager.
