Giovanni Spinetti

Giovanni Spinetti (* im 15. Jahrhundert; † 16. Jahrhundert, im deutschsprachigen Bereich auch Johannes Spinetus) war ein venezianischer Cembalobauer des frühen 16. Jahrhunderts.

Erfindung

Er gilt als der Erfinder des Spinetts. Nach einer oft bezweifelten,<ref>Wolfgang Pfeifer: Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Deutschen, 2005 (8. Auflage, Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag, ISBN 3-423-32511-9), S. 1326, Artikel „Spinett“: „Von italienischen Etymologen als Bildung zum Namen eines Erfinders Giovanni Spinetti erklärt; dennoch vielleicht eher als Ableitung zu lateinisch spina der Stachel, der Dorn aufzufassen.“</ref> jedoch auch häufig vertretenen etymologischen Theorie soll der Name „Spinett“ auf seinen Nachnamen zurückgehen.<ref>Meyers Großes Konversationslexikon, 6.
