Georg von Giesche (* 20. Oktober 1653 in Schmortsch, Kreis Breslau, Schlesien; † 26. April 1716 in Breslau) war ein deutscher Kaufmann und Unternehmer.

Leben

Giesche gründete ein Zink-Handelshaus, das als die Bergbaugesellschaft Georg von Giesche’s Erben zu einem der größten deutschen Unternehmen aufstieg. Er gilt als ein Pionier des schlesischen Zink- und Galmei-Abbaus. Im April 1712 wurde er von Kaiser Karl VI. in den erblichen Ritterstand erhoben.<ref>Ernst Heinrich Kneschke: NaDA-L. Band 3, Friedrich Voigt, Leipzig 1861, S. 519.</ref> Ihm wurde ein bedeutendes Vermögen und ausgezeichnete Handelskenntnisse zugeschrieben.<ref>Ernst Ludwig Schubarth: Verhandlungen des Vereins zur Beförderung des Gewerbefleißes in Preußen. Georg von Giesche hatte neun Kinder, drei Töchter und sechs Söhne. Der Name der Ehefrau ist nicht ermittelbar. Vier Söhne verstarben früh. Die Söhne Georg Christian, verstorben 1727, und Friedrich Wilhelm, 1754 gestorben, übernahmen die Geschäftsführung. Die Erben nutzten weltweit einige Privilegien in der Logistik, für ein jährliches Entgelt von 200 Taler.<ref>H(ans). Giesche starb 1716 und wurde in der Breslauer Elisabethkirche beigesetzt.

In der Bergwerksgesellschaft saßen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis auf einen bürgerlichen Stadtrat ausschließlich adelige Grundbesitzer.<ref>Amts-Blatt der Königlichen Regierung zu Breslau. Stück 47-1884, Graß, Barth & Comp. (W. Friedrich), Breslau, den 21. November 1884, S. 385.</ref>

Georg-von-Giesche-Schule

In Berlin-Schöneberg wurde am 1. April 1953 die Georg-von-Giesche-Schule als Oberschule Technischen Zweigs (Mittelschule) (OTZ) gegründet, die heute als integrierte Sekundar- und Europaschule besteht. 1970 erfolgte der Umzug der Georg-von-Giesche-Oberschule aus der Elßholzstraße in das 1905 erbaute, bis heute genutzte Schulgebäude an der Ecke Hohenstaufenstraße / Münchener Straße.
