Eric Sykes

Eric Sykes, CBE (* 4. Mai 1923 in Oldham, Lancashire; † 4. Juli 2012 in Esher, Surrey<ref>British comic actor Eric Sykes dies aged 89</ref>), war ein britischer Schauspieler und Komiker.

Leben

Sykes stand seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg auf der Bühne, doch erst beim Fernsehen der BBC entwickelte er sich ab 1948 sowohl als Schauspieler als auch als Autor zur Comedy-Größe. Von 1958 bis 1965 gestaltete er seine eigenen Fernsehreihen, Sykes and a … und Sykes, und gehörte zu den bekannten Komikern seiner Zeit; oft arbeitete er mit Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Tony Hancock und Hattie Jacques zusammen. Beim Film war er durchweg in komischen Rollen besonders in den 1960er Jahren zu sehen. Danach widmete er sich wieder verstärkt der Bühne und dem Fernsehen. Tourneen führten ihn unter anderem nach Rhodesien, Australien und Kanada.

2005 wurde seine Autobiografie veröffentlicht.
