Asia (Mythologie)

Asia (Vorlage:GrcS) ist eine Okeanide der griechischen Mythologie, eine Tochter des Okeanos und der Tethys.<ref>Hesiod, Theogonie 358</ref>

Sie ist in der Bibliotheke des Apollodor und bei Aischylos die Gattin des Titanen Iapetos und Mutter von Prometheus, Atlas, Epimetheus und Menoitios.<ref>Bibliotheke des Apollodor 1,2,2,3; Aischylos, Der gefesselte Prometheus 347</ref> Bei Hesiod wird als Mutter die Okeanide Klymene genannt.<ref>Hesiod, Theogonie 508</ref>

Nach Herodot ist sie die Gattin des Prometheus. Nach ihr soll der Kontinent Asien benannt worden sein.<ref>Herodot 4,45</ref>
