Acheloides

Als Acheloides (Vorlage:GrcS) oder Acheloiades ({{#invoke:Vorlage:lang|flat}}) werden in der griechischen Mythologie die Töchter des Flussgottes Acheloos bezeichnet. Während die meisten Autoren sie mit den Sirenen identifizierten, wurden sie vereinzelt auch als Najaden bezeichnet.

Angaben zur Mutter der Sirenen sind uneinheitlich. Meist wird als die Mutter der Acheloides eine der neun Musen angegeben, entweder Melpomene,<ref>Bibliotheke des Apollodor 1,3,4,1 und Epitome 7,18; Lykophron, Alexandra 712; Ovid, Metamorphosen 5,9; Hyginus Mythographus, Fabulae 141 und praefatio 30</ref> Terpsichore<ref>Apollonios von Rhodos 4,892; Nonnos, Dionysiaka 13,313; Tzetzes zu Lykophron 653</ref> oder Kalliope.<ref>Servius zu Vergil, Aeneis 5,864</ref> Als weitere Varianten werden die Abkunft von Acheloos und Sterope, die Tochter des Königs von Pleuron Porthaon,<ref>Bibliotheke des Apollodor 1,7,10,2; Scholion zu Homer, Odyssee 12,39</ref> oder die Entstehung der Acheloides aus dem Blut des Acheloos<ref>Eustathios von Thessalonike 1709,39</ref> angegeben.

Als Najaden des Acheloos sind die Acheloides nur einmal bezeugt,<ref>Pseudo-Vergil, Copa 15</ref> ebenso wie die Verwendung des Namens als generische Bezeichnung für alle Flussnymphen.<ref>Columella 10,263</ref>
