Johanna Sickinghe

Johanna Sickinghe (voller Name Johanna Ignatia Jacobia Sickinghe-Nepveu tot Ameijde; * 19. Dezember 1858 in Groningen; † 3. März 1942) war nach Edith Baird die zweite<ref>Harold van der Heijden: Mrs. Baird & Mrs. Jowes, in: EG 169, S. 97, ISSN 0012-7671.</ref> weibliche Komponistin von Schachstudien.<ref>Harold van der Heijden: Mrs. Jowes, in: EG 168, ISSN 0012-7671.</ref> Sie hatte den Adelstitel „Jonkvrouw “.

Studien

Sickinghe publizierte unter dem Pseudonym Jowes Studien. Ihre erste Studie erschien am 16. Januar 1916, laut Sachbearbeiter Gustav Adolf Olland vermutlich inspiriert von einer Studie von Carel Mann, im linkspolitischen De Groene Amsterdammer, in welchem später noch zwei weitere Studien und Dreizüger von ihr erschienen. Sie wurde häufig unter der Abkürzung J. S. als erfolgreiche Löserin der Schachkolumne gelistet. John Selman lüftete ihre Identität 1942, jedoch erst nach ihrem Tod.

Privates

Johanna Sickinghe war mit Onno Joost Sickinghe (1853–1948) verheiratet. Aus der Ehe ging ein Sohn hervor, dessen Sohn Feijo Onno Joost Sickinghe beinahe 35 Jahre lang im Ausschuss der Firma Stork tätig war. Feijos Sickinghes Sohn wiederum ist der erfolgreiche belgische Manager Duco Wilhelm Sickinghe.
