Lullabies to Paralyze (englisch für „Wiegenlieder zur Lähmung“) ist das vierte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Rockband Queens of the Stone Age. Es erschien im März 2005 und ist das erste Studioalbum nach Nick Oliveris Rauswurf und gleichzeitig das erste Album mit Joey Castillo und Troy Van Leeuwen.

Entstehung und Veröffentlichung

Die Erstveröffentlichung von Lullabies to Paralyze erfolgte am 18. März 2005 bei Interscope Records. Das Album erschien in seiner Originalausführung als CD (Katalognummer: 06024 9880296) und LP (Katalognummer: AAA 996) sowie zum Download mit 15 Titeln.<ref name="Austrian" /> Im gleichen Monat erschien eine Deluxeversion mit dem Bonustitel Precious and Grace (Katalognummer: 988 029-7) sowie eine „Special Edition“, die nochmals um eine DVD erweitert wurde (Katalognummer: 988 031-3). In einigen Ländern erschien auch eine Deluxeversion mit dem Bonustitel Infinity, einem Titel der bereits vor der Albumproduktion entstand, aber nochmals neu eingespielt wurde. 2005 erschien auch eine sogenannte „Limited Tour Edition“, ein zusätzliches Livealbum enthält (Katalognummer: Rekords Rekords 00602498344427). Laut Begleitheft wurden sämtliche Lieder am 19. März 2005 im Earthlink (Atlanta, USA) aufgenommen. Ein Teil der Aufnahmen stammt jedoch vom 27. März 2005 aus dem 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. Geschrieben wurden alle Lieder der Standardausführung von den Bandmitgliedern Joey Castillo, Josh Homme und Troy Van Leeuwen. Das Lied In My Head entstand mit den Koautoren Josh Freese und Alain Johannes sowie das Lied Tangled Up in Plaid mit Mark Lanegan. Homme zeichnete zudem für die Produktion aller Lieder verantwortlich, gemeinsam mit Joe Barresi.<ref name="Austrian" />

Trivia

• In My Head und Like a Drug stammen aus Hommes Nebenprojekt Desert Sessions.
• The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died wurde für das Album aufgenommen, jedoch wurden die Tapes verlegt und waren unauffindbar. Im Begleitheft steht hierzu: “Was lost or misplaced. (There is a reward for the return of said tapes)”
• Zwei Konzerte der Lullabies to Paralyze Tour in London wurden für das Videoalbum Over the Years and Through the Woods aufgezeichnet.
• Der Titel Lullabies to Paralyze stammt aus einer Zeile des Liedes Mosquito Song vom Vorgänger Songs for the Deaf (August 2002).
