World Cup of Pool

Der World Cup of Pool ist ein von Matchroom Sport organisiertes Poolbillardturnier in der Disziplin 9-Ball, das seit 2006 zumeist jährlich ausgetragen wird. Es ist ein Nationenturnier, bei dem jedes teilnehmende Land von einem Team aus zwei Spielern repräsentiert wird. Der Veranstaltungsort war bei der Erstauflage Newport, Wales und wechselte 2007 nach Rotterdam in den Niederlanden. Von 2009 bis 2012 war Manila Austragungsort. Seit 2013 wird der World Cup of Pool in England ausgetragen.

Rekordsieger sind die Philippinen, die das Turnier 2006, 2009, 2013 und 2023 gewannen.

Regeln

An den bisherigen Turnieren nahmen jeweils 32 Teams aus 31 Ländern teil (2006 stellte England zwei Teams; 2007 und 2008 die Niederlande, 2009 bis 2012 die Philippinen und seit 2013 wieder England – jeweils als Gastgebernation).

Gespielt wird im Scotch-Doubles-Modus mit Siegerbreak. Das bedeutet, dass das Team Anstoßrecht hat, das auch das vorhergehende Spiel gewonnen hat.

Seit 2007 wird bis zum Viertelfinale gespielt, bis ein Team acht Spiele (Racks) gewonnen hat, im Halbfinale wurde die Zahl der benötigten Siege auf neun erhöht und im Finale schließlich auf elf. 2006 hingegen wurde bis zum Halbfinale bis neun gespielt und im Finale bis dreizehn.

Des Weiteren wird eine sogenannte Shot clock eingesetzt, die es den Spielern nicht erlaubt länger als 40 Sekunden mit ihrem Stoß zu warten. Allerdings hat man einmal pro Rack die Möglichkeit eine Extension anzusagen, durch die man noch einmal 40 Sekunden mehr Zeit für den Stoß bekommt.

Der World Cup of Pool 2013 wurde in der York Hall in London ausgetragen. Erstmals seit Jahren wurde Poolbillard wieder live im deutschen Fernsehen (Sport1) übertragen, kommentiert vom Bundestrainer Pool Andreas Huber.

Insgesamt werden 250.000 US-Dollar ausgeschüttet. Die folgenden Angaben beziehen sich auf das Team, nicht auf die Einzelspieler.
