== Leben ==&lt;br /&gt;
Altsheler wurde in [[Three Springs (Kentucky)|Three Springs]], [[Kentucky]] geboren. 1885 begann er, bei der Zeitung &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The Courier-Journal]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; mitzuwirken. Als [[hawaii]]anischer Korrespondent arbeitete er ab 1889 bei der New Yorker Zeitung &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[New York World]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; mit. Später schrieb er Kindergeschichten für die Zeitung.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Altsheler heiratete im Jahre 1888 Sarah Boles; sie bekamen gemeinsam einen Sohn. Während des [[Erster Weltkrieg|Ersten Weltkrieges]] befanden er und seine Familie sich in [[Deutschland]]. Auf der Heimfahrt nach Amerika erkrankte Altsheler schwer und verstarb 1919 in [[New York City]].&lt;br /&gt;
