== Leben ==
Edward Caird wurde in [[Greenock]] in [[Renfrewshire]] geboren und bekam seine Ausbildung auf der [[Greenock Academy]], in der [[University of Glasgow|Glasgow]] und in der [[Oxford University]]. Er unterrichtete am [[Merton College]] in Oxford. 1866 wurde er Professor für Moralphilosophie an der [[University of Glasgow]]. Dort wirkte er bis 1893. Anschließend ging er ans [[Balliol College]] in Oxford, wo er bis 1907 wirkte. 1900 wurde er zum Ehrenmitglied ''(Honorary Fellow)'' der [[Royal Society of Edinburgh]] gewählt.<ref>{{Internetquelle| url=http://www.rse.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/all_fellows.pdf| titel=Fellows Directory.
