Charles C. Die Theorie geht bis auf Conley, Robert Easton ''Isolated invariant sets and isolating blocks'', Transactions AMS, Band 158, 1971, S. 35–61, zurück.</ref> Sie verwendet die [[Morse-Theorie]] und diente als ein Ausgangspunkt der Entwicklung der [[Floer-Homologie]].

Mit [[Eduard Zehnder]] bewies er 1983 die [[Arnold-Vermutung]] der [[Symplektische Geometrie|symplektischen Geometrie]] für Tori beliebiger Dimension.
