Der Name BOBCATSSS ist ein [[Akronym]] und steht für die Anfangsbuchstaben der Gründer-Städte, die das BOBCATSSS Symposium 1993 geschaffen und erstmals veranstaltet haben: [[Budapest]], [[Oslo]], [[Barcelona]], [[Kopenhagen|Copenhagen]], [[Amsterdam]], [[Tampere]], [[Stuttgart]], [[Szombathely]] und [[Sheffield]].
