Sie wurde 1977 als Schülerin von [[Dietrich von Bothmer]] am [[Institute of Fine Arts]] der [[New York University]] mit einer Arbeit über griechische [[bilingue Vasen]] promoviert. Sie hat sich vor allem als Spezialistin auf dem Gebiet der [[Griechische Vasenmalerei|griechischen Vasenmalerei]], insbesondere von ungewöhnlichen Techniken in der [[Attische Vasenmalerei|attischen Vasenmalerei]], hervorgetan. So war sie 2006 für die Ausstellung „The colors of clay. Special techniques in Athenian vases“ im [[J. Paul Getty Museum]] in Malibu verantwortlich.
