== Wirken ==
Keyfitz arbeitet auf dem Gebiet der [[Angewandte Mathematik|Angewandten Mathematik]]. Sie beschäftigt sich mit nichtlinearen [[Partielle Differentialgleichung|partiellen Differentialgleichungen]], insbesondere mit hyperbolischen [[Erhaltungssatz|Erhaltungssätzen]], aber auch mit Erhaltungssätzen, die nicht strikt hyperbolisch sind oder ihren Typ von hyperbolisch nach elliptisch ändern. Diese können in Modellen von [[Mehrphasenströmung]]en in [[Porosität|porösen Medien]] auftreten. Keyfitz beschäftigte sich mit freien [[Randwertproblem]]en, um [[Transsonische Strömung|transsonische Strömungen]] besser zu verstehen, und sie studierte [[Bifurkation (Mathematik)|Bifurkation]]sprobleme in [[Reaktionsdiffusionsgleichung]]en, besonders in der Theorie von [[Schockwelle]]n.
