Das Adams County wurde am 1. März 1836 gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach [[John Quincy Adams]], dem sechsten Präsidenten der [[Vereinigte Staaten|Vereinigten Staaten]]. Das heute noch benutzte Bezirksgerichtsgebäude wurde 1872–73 erbaut.
